Following a series of Kona Low storms, severe erosion along Kamehameha Highway at Waimea Bay sent boulders cascading onto the roadway, forcing a partial closure of one of Oahu's most heavily trafficked coastal routes. The State of Hawaii required immediate slope stabilization to protect public safety and restore full two-lane traffic. Prometheus Construction selected Vertical Worx, a utility helicopter operator, to execute precision aerial deployment of 23 geomesh netting panels — each 150 feet long, 12 feet wide, and weighing up to 1,800 pounds — delivered directly to crews staged on the cliff face via longline helicopter.


Critical Path Marketing (CPM) provided aerial drone and ground-based videography to document this time-critical operation in real time. Through this specialized production, Vertical Worx was able to capture verified proof of their precision load-placement capability, safety record, and ability to execute complex aerial rigging work under a compressed emergency timeline.

Challenges

Manned Aircraft Deconfliction & Rapid-Cycle Production | Documenting a live longline helicopter operation over an active highway and unstable cliff face required CPM to operate at the same tempo as the flight crew. With a 15-minute pick-to-release cycle and 23 panels moving in a single day, camera positions had to be repositioned continuously along the highway corridor without ever entering the helicopter's flight path or the active work zone below the cliff.

Every camera placement was coordinated directly with the Vertical Worx flight crew and Prometheus's site safety team under strict deconfliction protocols. With no opportunity for re-shoots, each of the 23 drops had to be captured correctly on the first attempt.
